Edmonton’s Growing Need for Professional Security Solutions

As Edmonton continues to experience growth in commercial development, healthcare infrastructure, industrial operations, construction projects, and residential expansion, security has become a top priority for business owners, property managers, developers, and facility operators.

In 2026, organizations across Edmonton are investing more heavily in professional security guard services than ever before. Rising concerns regarding theft, vandalism, trespassing, workplace incidents, liability claims, and property damage have made security an essential operational investment rather than an optional expense.

Whether managing a commercial office tower downtown, overseeing a large construction project, operating a healthcare facility, or securing an industrial warehouse, Edmonton businesses recognize that professional security services help protect people, assets, and operations while reducing overall risk.

The Security Challenges Facing Edmonton Businesses

Every industry faces unique security concerns. However, several common threats continue to affect organizations throughout Edmonton.

Property Crime

Businesses regularly experience:

  • Break-ins
  • Theft of equipment
  • Vehicle theft
  • Copper theft
  • Tool theft
  • Fuel theft
  • Inventory loss

Even a single incident can result in thousands of dollars in losses and significant operational disruptions.

Vandalism

Commercial properties, construction sites, retail locations, and vacant buildings frequently experience vandalism, graffiti, and intentional property damage.

The cost of repairs, insurance claims, and downtime often exceeds the cost of proactive security measures.

Unauthorized Access

Unauthorized visitors can create serious safety, liability, and security concerns.

Professional security guards help manage:

  • Visitor screening
  • Access control
  • Contractor verification
  • Employee entry monitoring
  • After-hours building access

Workplace Safety Concerns

Security personnel often play a vital role in maintaining safe environments for employees, visitors, tenants, and contractors.

Why Security Guard Services Are Increasing in Demand Across Edmonton

Businesses are no longer relying solely on cameras and alarm systems.

While technology remains important, security cameras cannot intervene during an incident.

Professional security guards provide:

  • Real-time response
  • Visible deterrence
  • Incident management
  • Customer service
  • Emergency support

This human presence significantly reduces security risks.

  • Mixed-use developments
  • Retail plazas

Construction companies regularly face losses related to:

  • Tool theft
  • Heavy equipment theft

Professional construction security guards help reduce project losses while keeping projects on schedule.

Benefits of Construction Site Security

  • Reduced theft
  • Improved site safety
  • Better access control
  • Lower insurance risks
  • Faster emergency response

Many Edmonton developers now utilize 24/7 security coverage throughout project lifecycles.

Mobile Patrol Services: A Cost-Effective Security Solution

Not every property requires a full-time security guard.

Mobile patrol services provide an affordable alternative for:

  • Office buildings
  • Industrial yards
  • Retail locations
  • Construction projects
  • Vacant properties
  • Warehouses

Security vehicles conduct both scheduled and random patrols, creating uncertainty for criminals and significantly reducing opportunities for theft and vandalism.

Healthcare facilities face unique security challenges.

Hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and medical centres require security professionals capable of managing:

  • Patient disturbances
  • Visitor management
  • Access control
  • Emergency situations
  • Workplace violence prevention

Professional healthcare security officers help create safer environments for patients, staff, and visitors.

Industrial Security Services in Edmonton

Edmonton remains one of Canada’s largest industrial and logistics hubs.

Industrial facilities require specialized security solutions due to:

  • High-value equipment
  • Hazardous materials
  • Large outdoor storage areas
  • Complex operational environments

Industrial security guards assist with:

  • Gatehouse operations
  • Access control
  • Mobile patrols
  • Incident reporting
  • Asset protection
  • Emergency response

Warehouse Security Services in Edmonton

Warehouses contain significant inventory and equipment that attract criminal activity.

Professional warehouse security services help prevent:

  • Inventory theft
  • Employee theft
  • Unauthorized access
  • After-hours break-ins
  • Loading dock incidents

Top 7 Plyometric Exercises to Boost Your Vertical Leap

0

Plyometric training is one of the most effective methods for increasing your vertical leap. By training the muscles, tendons, and nervous system to produce maximum force in minimum time, plyometrics bridge the gap between raw strength and explosive athleticism. Whether you’re training to dunk for the first time or trying to add a few more inches to an already impressive vertical, the following seven exercises are proven performers that should be at the core of your jump training program.

1. Depth Jumps

Depth jumps are widely considered the gold standard of plyometric training.  Stand on a box 12 to 24 inches high, step off (don’t jump), land softly, and immediately explode upward as fast as possible.  The key is minimizing ground contact time. For accurate jump measurements, use a dunk calculator tools provide the exact figures you need.  This trains the stretch-shortening cycle aggressively and develops the reactive strength needed for maximum jump height.  Start with 2 to 3 sets of 5 reps with full recovery between sets.

2. Box Jumps

Box jumps develop explosive hip extension and teach your body to produce maximum force from a standing position. Stand in front of a sturdy box, dip into a quarter squat, and jump onto the box, landing softly. Focus on full hip and knee extension at the top of the jump. Progress by increasing box height gradually. Box jumps are lower impact than depth jumps, making them suitable for training more frequently.

3. Single-Leg Bounding

Single-leg bounding develops unilateral leg power, balance, and coordination — all crucial for the one-foot takeoff used in many dunking scenarios. Push off aggressively from one foot, drive the opposite knee up, and cover as much ground as possible with each bound. Alternate legs and focus on powerful, controlled strides. This exercise also helps identify and correct strength imbalances between legs.

4. Tuck Jumps

Tuck jumps are a high-intensity plyometric that develops explosive power and hip flexor strength simultaneously. From a standing position, jump as high as possible and pull both knees toward your chest at the peak. Land softly and immediately repeat. Tuck jumps improve your ability to lift your legs quickly while airborne, which is directly useful for clearing the rim during a dunk attempt.

5. Broad Jumps

The broad jump develops horizontal and vertical power together, training the full-body coordination needed for athletic jumping. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, swing your arms back, and jump forward as far as possible, landing on both feet. This exercise builds powerful hip extension and reinforces proper arm swing mechanics. Measure your distance each session to track power improvements objectively.

6. Hurdle Hops

Hurdle hops train rhythm, timing, and reactive strength across multiple jumps. Set up a row of small hurdles 6 to 12 inches high and jump over each one with minimal ground contact time. This exercise is particularly useful for developing the elastic qualities of the Achilles tendon and calf complex, which play a major role in the final push-off during a jump. Focus on speed and reactivity rather than height alone.

7. Split Squat Jumps

Split squat jumps combine unilateral strength and explosive power in a dynamic movement. Start in a lunge position, drop down into the lunge, and explosively jump upward, switching legs in mid-air and landing in the opposite lunge. This exercise builds single-leg power, hip flexor strength, and overall explosiveness. It’s more joint-friendly than bilateral jumping exercises, making it a good complement in a balanced program.
